    Servicemarks

    Definition:
    word, phrase, logo, symbol, color, sound or smell used by a business to identify a service (e.g. transportation, insurance) and distinguish it from those of its competitors.

    Confirmation Number

    Definition:
    A four-digit number that is assigned to each newly filed patent application. The confirmation number, in combination with the application number, is used to verify the accuracy of the application number placed on correspondence filed with the Office to avoid misidentification of an application.

    WIPO

    Definition:
    A specialized Geneva-based agency of the United Nations, created in 1967 to promote international cooperation in intellectual property protection.

    Inventor

    Definition:
    one who contributes to the conception of an invention. The patent law of the United States of America requires that the applicant in a patent application must be the inventor.
